'Time Dreaming'- Microtonal Trumpet and Flugelhorn
Dedicated to the memory of former composition tutor, Donald Bousted.
Stephen Altoft and Donald Bousted first met when they were students at the, then Huddersfield Polytechnic- Stephen as an undergraduate, performance major, and Donald as a postgraduate Masters student of composition. Donald then became a composition tutor at the University of Huddersfield in the mid 90s. Donald conducted and received performances by the YON Ensemble, and took part in the Composers Exchange- both run by Stephen with James Saunders. Later Donald and Stephen collaborated for over twenty years on The Microtonal Trumpet, UKMicroFest (London), the Microtonal Projects collective and EUROMicroFest (Germany). With this concert we celebrate Donald, who sadly passed away too early in 2021 as composer, promoter of microtonal music, producer and teacher. Senior Lecturer, Geoff Cox, a former compostion student of Donald, pays tribute with the premier of a piece for quarter-tone flugelhorn and electronics.
